I get icons in the directory window, but not on the toolbar. This does however epitomize the Unix style of thinking, I bet some of those slower operations are simpler. Interesting link. sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude remove pcmanfm && sudo aptitude purge pcmanfm && sudo aptitude install thunar. we'll see if i change my song AGAIN, once pcmanfm duffs up some simple file transfer. or use the. by mashcaster » Mon Nov 17, 2008 11:06 am, Post Supports fast failure resolving in bulky configuration and log folders. Because it tries to be as lightweight as possible and tries to use very little RAM. Both Thunar and PCManFM display the SIZE of the icon of a folder (I guess) when displaying in detailed view. mashcaster: no, thunar does not handle the desktop like pcmanfm does. It's simple, but well designed, fast and easy to use. StatlerDell Vostro 1400, Windows XP/Peppermint One (kids use this for games), Copyright © 2012 CrunchBang Linux. I don't like having to empty the trash, but I can live with that. Unlike Nautilus and Caja, this can't extend with scripts. With all the talk of thunar vs pcmanfm, I thought I'd give thunar a try again. One thing I'd like to change is the toolbar. Uses a bit more RAM than thunar. (Just use a single tree as it actually is and expand appropriately). New tabs automatically start in the same location. If script extension is added it can become a really good FM. The problem is separating the desktop manager from the file manager. Compaq CQ60-615DX, Windows 7 64bit/Peppermint Ice/#! Is there any way to fix this? You can only choose one option in the right-click menu instead of being able to select multiple at once. Is it possible to remove pcmanfm and replace it with thunar? It seems to be ok.  A little faster. The most important reason people chose Thunar is: was the old one getting too long? Proudly powered by Debian. you can use the file administrating capabilities of both at the same time. Its new features sound very interesting but until then I don't think it compares to Thunar. In the question“What are the best Linux file managers?” SpaceFM is ranked 6th while PCManFM is ranked 10th. PCManFM can open different folders as root, this way you don't have to use the terminal to move around files for which you need root permission. Comparisons are a little misplaced at the moment as PCmanFM is undergoing a complete rewrite. Tabs can practically be managed just as in a browser, so you don't end up with windows open all over your desktop. I find it inconvenient that Thunar does not show unmounted drives. Also, is pcmanfm needed for the desktop icons? the story doesnt go the same, other way around. I usually don't take place in religious wars but just wanted to report that, being an LXDE fanboi, I stuck with PCManFM in its present incarnation for quite some time and until recently, when I finally made the switch to Thunar as per the usual wiki recipe. One thing I'd like to change is the toolbar. ^ You are aware that the navigation bar in Thunar follows your GTK settings in LXAppearance? Slant is powered by a community that helps you make informed decisions. I prefer Thunar just because it seems a bit more sophisticated and fulfills all of my needs. I  like both.
